ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Project Director, the Director, Surface Construction will provide leadership to ensure exceptional standards are being met across all aspects of construction execution planning and implementation during the design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commission phases of the Rook I Project.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
(including but not limited to):

  • Oversee and be responsible for the safety planning associated with the Rook I Project construction
  • Oversight of project contractors and consultants during the engineering and construction phase of the Project.
  • Develop execution plans, schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments for the Rook I Project.
  • Ensure NexGen’s Safety, Health, and Environmental policies are adhered to. Coordinate with the Rook I Project team and Project Services in identifying, preparing, and coordinating the required construction-related reporting site and offsite key performance indicators.
  • Manage and oversee construction services provided by contractors and consultants including in-depth reviews and approvals of construction deliverables on behalf of NexGen.
  • Interface with the NexGen, contractor, and consultant teams to establish field and construction procedures and objectives in line with organizational policies and programs.
  • Ensure that the Community Engagement strategies and commitments are implemented for construction-related activities.
  • Set priorities with the Rook I Project team and the consultants core team of design engineers, procurement, planning, and scheduling.
  • Provide Rook I team with feedback and endorsement for construction estimates, budgets, forecasts, and schedules, in collaboration with the Construction Management contractor ("CM").
  • Implement and manage all surface construction operations. Oversee the quality and accuracy of the entire surface infrastructure construction of the Rook I Project.
  • Meet environmental requirements and demands and assist in work related to obtaining permits
  • Direct construction/project supervisors to ensure the success of all projects. Monitor and report on project health related to safety, scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Provide support to the NexGen Engineering Team to provide input into engineering activities, including technical reviews and input, and final approval of drawings and technical documents.
  • Direct oversight of vendor/contractor surface construction activities, including technical reviews and input, and final approval of drawings and technical documents relating to shafts and hoisting engineering and design.
  • Ensure that licensing, EA, and all other permitting requirements are appropriately integrated into the engineering workflows, collaborating with the EA/Licensing teams where required.
  • Work collaboratively with the operations team to incorporate operational readiness consideration into the design and engineering deliverables.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for safety, technology, productivity, and cost improvements while ensuring the safeguarding of life, health, environment, and property
  • Ensure that the necessary engineering and design processes (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, etc.) happen thoroughly.
  • Make certain that timely and effective decisions are made and that technical clarifications are addressed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 10 to 15 years of experience in heavy construction or mining infrastructure projects.
  • 7+ years as a project manager leading surface construction in the resource industry.
  • Expert-level organizational skills and ability to multi-task, coupled with the ability to effectively prioritize and solve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship skills and the ability to work and communicate with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, written and oral
  • High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, rapidly changing environment with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Experience working on projects in leadership roles that have used an EPCM and EPC delivery model.

LOCATION

This position will be based in the Saskatoon project office with a regular rotation to the Project site.
