ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Engineering & Operations, the Project Director, Shaft Sinking will possess 15 years of experience as a Project Manager or Project Director level role on large scale projects in the resource sector, where the total project costs have been $500M+.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
(including but not limited to):

  • Establish an appropriate, integrated organizational structure, including off- project functional and specialist support.
  • Define and communicate roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities to the project team and contractors to ensure project completion in a safe manner, within budget, on schedule, and in conformance with the appropriate standards, specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the scope, design bases, and objectives are defined, best practices/lessons learned reviewed, and detailed work plans, schedules, budgets, and procedures are established.
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of the overall Project Execution Plan for the Rook I Project.
  • Ensure integration of work plans of multiple execution from surface and underground.
  • Promote the use of constructability reviews during project design and execution. Monitor and control all contractual commitments to ensure that all work is being performed in accordance with the specifications, drawings, and terms of the contract, that a trend program is in place, and that change orders and claims are processed in a timely manner.
  • Implement and maintain a change management control system.
  • Facilitate with the project team the development, communication, implementation, update, and continual use of the Project Execution Plan.
  • Review and approve project control systems that measure progress/performance, provide early warning of deviations from the plan, and identify corrective actions to be taken.
  • Identify quality requirements and ensure the proper processes are identified and implemented to achieve contractual quality commitments.
  • Oversee the Document Control and Records Management function.
  • Review and approve bid tabulations for commitments on all major purchase orders, contracts, and subcontracts, and approves critical changes to these documents.
  • Integrate with the owners’ team with proper handover documentation and operational readiness.
  • Assist in the training of new project managers and other project team members in key positions through both formal training courses and on-the-job training.
  • Establish a plan to provide training opportunities for project team members. Track all turnover activities and develop plans to address.
  • Establish a communication plan to ensure effective communication between the Project team, Management, and Senior NexGen Leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or equivalent construction management experience.
  • 15+ years, or two (2) Mining & Metals projects serving as Project Manager or Project Director on mine site.
  • Expert-level organizational skills ability to multi-task, coupled with a proven ability to effectively prioritize duties and solve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship skills and the ability to work and communicate with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, written and oral
  • High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, rapidly changing environment with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Experience working on projects in leadership roles that have used an EPCM and EPC delivery model.

LOCATION

This position will be based in the Saskatoon project office with a regular rotation to the Project site.
