Role Overview

 The Summer Student Program is an opportunity to make an impact and build your skill set while gaining valuable experience. 

During the program, the High School Summer Student will gain real world work experience in a mineral exploration and project development camp.

Applications must include a resume, three current references and a one-page cover letter outlining your interests, career and academic aspirations, and goals for your summer employment. 

Key Responsibilities

(Including but not limited to)
Diverse Departmental Exposure

Work across a range of departments, including Site Services, Kitchen, Custodian, Geology, Surveying, Environmental Monitoring, Health & Safety, and Office Administration. 

Specific Departmental Tasks

·       Site Services: Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the site, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. 

·       Kitchen Duties: Support in meal preparation, serving, and kitchen cleanliness. 

·       Custodial Work: Contribute to the cleanliness and hygiene of the camp, encompassing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks.
 
·       Geology and Surveying: Engage in fieldwork and data collection, supporting geologists and surveyors. 
·       Environmental Monitoring: Conduct field surveys and collect data on various environmental parameters such as water quality, soil composition, and biodiversity. 

·       Health & Safety: Assist in the implementation of health and safety protocols throughout the site, including conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.  

·       Office Administration: Perform administrative tasks, manage documentation, and support the smooth functioning of the office. 

Community Engagement: 

Participate in at least two community events and celebrations in the LPA, including the Canada Day BBQ in La Loche; additional events may include the Yanessa Days BBQ, Treaty Day Celebrations, Traditional Land Base Family Camp, Hodge Lake Campout, etc. 


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

·       Must be an LPA resident.
·       Currently attending Grade 11 or 12.
·       Must be older than 16 years of age and no older than 19 years of age.
·       Are intending to return to high-school or begin post-secondary education in the fall of 2025.
