Role Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the development and optimization of the Rook I underground mine design within the Deswik software suite. Third party software training will be provided.
- Gain experience and exposure to the Life-of-Mine planning process. This planning includes the development of production plans and scenarios for future operations.
- Work with the MTS team to deliver trade-off studies aimed at optimizing mining operations.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary group of engineers to advance infrastructure engineering for systems including but not limited to; explosives storage, dewatering, material handling, mine services, and equipment maintenance.
- Gain exposure to key areas of mine engineering such as; ventilation, paste backfill, ground support, drill and blast, equipment selection, and radiation protection.
- Actively seek opportunities for continuous learning and professional development.
- Contribute ideas for process improvement and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including geology, project management, procurement and multi-discipline engineering.
- Engage in effective communication with team members and share insights gained during the co-op, including a detailed project report and a presentation summarizing key learnings while working on the Project.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Strong academic performance as well as a proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment and independently on assigned tasks.
- Experience in Windows-based applications and the Microsoft Office suite of software, with advanced Excel skills.
- Basic knowledge of mine planning concepts and software tools, such as Deswik, is considered an asset.
