Role Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Director, Mine Technical Services, is responsible for leading all technical mine-planning, geotechnical, geo-metallurgical, production geology, and mine engineering functions that support the design, development, construction and operation of the mine. 

This role requires strategic and technical leadership to ensure the successful design, construction, and operation of the project, while optimizing performance and maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.

Location
The role will be based in our Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Project Office with regular trips to the Project Site. 

Key Responsibilities

(Including but not limited to)
  • Review technical studies, designs, and cost estimates to evaluate project and project alternatives.
  • Supervise external technical consultants including development of work scopes, tracking progress, and ensuring objectives are met.
  • Oversee the ongoing optimization of the mine production plan. 
  • Develop a geo-metallurgical model for long-term mine and process optimization. 
  • Through research, design, and engineering, identify and recommend opportunities for safety, technology, productivity, and cost improvements while ensuring the safeguarding of life, health, environment, and property.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of the Operational Readiness Plan as it pertains to mining. 
  • Provide accountability, leadership, guidance, and technical direction to the Mine Technical Services team to support construction, commissioning, ramp‑up, and operations.
  • Work closely with the key teams to ensure construction is executed in a professional manner consistent with the approved documents and corporate policies so the underground mine is completed to allow for seamless transition to operations. 
  • Develop engineering design standards and processes.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provide guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the project management team. 
  • Ensure all engineering work enables underground mine operations to meet company requirements and comply with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Qualified Person for Mineral Reserve statements and reconciliations.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mine or Geological engineering. P.Eng  in Saskatchewan is required and being a Qualified Person is also a requirement of this role.
  • A minimum of 20 years of Mine Engineering in operations and/or projects.
  • Strong experience large capital projects.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with engineering management systems, scheduling tools, and project controls.
