Role Overview

As a member of the Saskatoon-based compliance management team, the Compliance Specialist is responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and operationalizing Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulatory requirements for the Rook I Project. Reporting to the Lead, Licensing & Compliance the Compliance Specialist is the subject matter expert (SME) on regulatory obligations, compliance roadmaps and strategies. The incumbent proactively tracks legislative and regulatory developments, assesses impacts to NexGen, and works cross-functionally to ensure compliance gaps are identified and addressed. The Compliance Specialist possesses strong organizational and communication skills, is detail-oriented, and has experience with major construction projects or mining.

Location
This will be a 1-year contract role based in our Saskatoon office, with occasional travel to the Rook I Project site (as required). 

Key Responsibilities

(Including but not limited to)
  • Act as NexGen's primary expert on regulatory requirements applicable to Rook I Project.
  • Continuously monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments to identify potential impacts on products, services, and operations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate compliance gaps resulting from new or changing requirements.
  • Own the end-to-end management of compliance requirements, ensuring appropriate controls, processes, and documentation are established.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across business, technical, operational, and leadership teams to communicate regulatory expectations and compliance obligations.
  • Support document reviews and revisions, audits and gap assessments, regulatory inquiries, and compliance reporting activities as required. 
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to leadership regarding regulatory risks, compliance strategies, and resource requirements.
  • Support other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 3-5 years of experience in permitting, compliance, or quality-related roles, with applicable experience within the nuclear regulatory, mining or natural resources industry. 
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field.
  • Formal internal auditor training and certifications considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements applicable to the mining industry. Familiarity with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission requirements considered an asset.
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft 365 products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, One Drive, SharePoint, Power Point, etc.
  • Intermediate skill level in database management systems, including the creation and maintenance of records. Experience with GIS software and mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS) is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate in a dynamic work environment.
